MG 641 Managerial Economics in Healthcare

The emphasis of this course is on the empirical analysis of basic economic principles, theories, and concepts to understand and help improve a variety of healthcare issues. Students are provided with the resources needed to apply an in-depth analysis of economic principles for healthcare insurance payment systems, government policies, physician services, acute care services, ambulatory care services, long term care services, and pharmaceutical industries in the U.S. Specific topics include the fundamental economic concepts of managing risk, analysis of supply and demand, analysis of clinical interventions, market structure, and profits. Students will be required to apply economic tools to solve business problems using case analysis from a variety of healthcare entities.
