The information contained in this course is required for students to embark on study that will prepare them to be successful managers of medical organizations, including hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory care centers, hospice facilities, insurance companies and provider networks. Students are introduced to the historical development, structure, operation, and current and future directions of the major components of the American health care delivery system and will undertake an in-depth analysis of the nature and operations of managed care in the United States as well as the purposes of various plans and how they operate. Additionally covered are provider, manager, and consumer perspectives. Finally, the integration of health care delivery systems and financial aspects will be analyzed.
