PHL 250 Human Rights
This course examine s the philosophical concept as well as the concrete application of human rights in both the domestic and international arenas. The course trace s the development of the philosophical ideas of human rights, as well as their legal foundations in the West and elsewhere , discusses the epistemology of human right scholarship , and explores existing theory and scholarship explaining the personal, ideological, and institutional factors that influence the prevalence of human rights abuses both in the developing and developed world. Students discuss the various institutions and enforcement mechanisms that seek to protect human rights and the effectiveness of human rights in a number of different arenas.
